Once a year, we put our winter forecast in the paws of a groundhog—and somehow, that seems perfectly reasonable!
Groundhog Day may not come with presents, a big meal, or weeks of decorating, but that’s part of what makes it so much fun. It’s a quirky little February tradition that gives us an excuse to break up the winter routine, make a few predictions of our own, and enjoy something silly together.
Whether you’re planning a classroom celebration, adding a little fun to your homeschool day, or simply looking for something different to do with the family on February 2, printable games make it easy. No elaborate party planning required—just print a few pages, gather everyone around, and see who’s ready to predict six more weeks of winter.
I’ve put together some of my favorite Groundhog Day game ideas for families, classrooms, homeschool groups, and celebrations, so you can choose what works best for your group.
Which Groundhog Day Game Should I Choose?
Not sure where to start? Here are a few quick picks:
- For lots of laughs: Who Is Most Like the Groundhog?
- For testing your Groundhog Day knowledge: Trivia: True or False
- For classrooms and larger groups: Mingle Bingo
- For something silly and easy: What Is Your Groundhog Name?
- For a little prediction-day fun: Prediction Maze
- For creative kids (and adults!): Groundhog Day Mad Libs
- For everyone to play together: Left Right Game
- For the most variety: Groundhog Day 20 Printable Games Bundle
Still not sure? Don’t overthink it. Pick a game that sounds fun for your group, print it out, and play. Groundhog Day is already based on asking a furry little weather forecaster what spring has in store—we don’t need to make the rest of it complicated!
Groundhog Day Games for the Whole Family
You don’t need a Groundhog Day party to make February 2 a little more fun. A couple of printable games after dinner or during a winter afternoon can turn an otherwise ordinary day into something everyone remembers.
Who Is Most Like the Groundhog? is one of my favorites for families because everyone gets to decide which person in the group best fits each prompt. It’s simple, funny, and there’s always at least one answer that causes the entire table to say, “Yep. That’s definitely you.”
Trivia: True or False adds a little friendly competition while testing how much everyone actually knows about Groundhog Day. You may discover that the person confidently explaining groundhog facts to everyone knows considerably less than they thought.
For something a little sillier, try What Is Your Groundhog Name? Everyone gets their own ridiculous Groundhog Day name, which is exactly the kind of completely unnecessary information a family deserves to know about one another.
And if you want everyone playing together, the Left Right Game is an easy choice. Pass the prize as the story is read aloud and see where it ends up. Kids can play, adults can play, and nobody needs to study the rules beforehand.

Groundhog Day Games for Classrooms & Large Groups
Groundhog Day is practically made for the classroom. It’s educational enough to justify celebrating and silly enough that the kids actually want to. That feels like a win to me!
Mingle Bingo gets everyone out of their seats and talking as they search for classmates who match the different spaces on their bingo card. It works especially well when you want an activity that gets the whole room involved instead of having everyone quietly working at their desks.
Think Quick and Categories are great choices when you want a little friendly competition. Divide everyone into teams, set a timer, and suddenly Groundhog Day becomes much more serious than anyone expected.
For a game that mixes movement with a little adventure, try the Groundhog Day Scavenger Hunt. It’s an easy way to change the energy in the room and give everyone a chance to move around.
And Trivia: True or False works just as well with a classroom or larger group. Play individually, divide everyone into teams, or read the questions aloud and let the whole group guess together.

Groundhog Day Games for Kids & Teens
Groundhog Day games don’t have to feel like another worksheet. The best ones give kids something to solve, create, race through, or laugh about.
Groundhog Day Mad Libs is perfect for that. Kids supply the words without knowing exactly where they’re going, and then everyone gets to hear the wonderfully ridiculous story they created.
For kids who enjoy puzzles, try the Prediction Maze, Word Search, or Word Scramble. They’re easy activities to add to a classroom celebration, homeschool lesson, or quiet afternoon at home.
If your group likes a challenge, A–Z Word Race has players racing to think of Groundhog Day words for as many letters of the alphabet as possible. Finish the Phrase and the Groundhog Day Word Game are other easy choices when you want something that gets everyone thinking without requiring a lot of setup.
And for a quick icebreaker, This or That and Would You Rather are hard to beat. You may start out talking about Groundhog Day and somehow end up in a passionate debate about winter versus spring. That’s half the fun!
Easy Groundhog Day Games for a Last-Minute Celebration
Maybe February 2 snuck up on you. It happens.
This is exactly why I love printable games. You don’t need decorations, elaborate supplies, or a carefully planned party. Choose a game, print it, and you have something fun ready to go.
What Is Your Groundhog Name?, This or That, and Would You Rather are especially easy when you need something quick. Tic Tac Toe and Dots & Boxes are simple choices for younger kids or quieter moments, while Candy Dice adds a little extra excitement if you want to include a small treat.
You can play one game during breakfast, tuck a puzzle into your homeschool day, use a few during a classroom celebration, or put several on the table and let everyone choose.
There really isn’t a wrong way to celebrate a holiday involving a groundhog and his shadow!
Want More Than One Groundhog Day Game?
If choosing just one sounds impossible—or you want enough activities to fill a classroom celebration, homeschool day, or family game night—the Groundhog Day 20 Printable Games Bundle gives you plenty to mix and match.
It includes group games, challenges, word and puzzle games, conversation games, and icebreakers, so you can choose activities that fit your group instead of trying to make one game work for everyone.
Print a few favorites or turn February 2 into an entire Groundhog Day game day. Either way, everything is ready when you are.

The Best Groundhog Day Game Is the One Your Group Will Actually Play
Groundhog Day doesn’t have to be a big celebration to become a good memory.
Sometimes the little traditions are the ones we remember most—the unexpected game at the dinner table, the classroom full of kids laughing together, or the completely ridiculous Groundhog Day name that somehow sticks around long after February 2.
Because the celebration doesn’t have to be elaborate to be memorable. Sometimes all you need is a good game, a little laughter, and a reason to gather. And if the groundhog says six more weeks of winter?
Sounds like six more weeks of game nights to me!
