Halloween Games for Families, Kids & Adults

Halloween table featuring Halloween games for families, kids and adults from Firefly Parade

Halloween has a funny way of bringing out the kid in everyone.

The costumes come out. The candy bowl gets filled. Someone buys entirely too much chocolate “for the trick-or-treaters.” And somehow, a suspicious amount of it disappears before October 31st.

Not that I know anything about that!

But underneath all the costumes, pumpkins and candy, Halloween is another wonderful excuse to gather.

Maybe your family is spending the evening together between trips to the front door. Maybe you’re planning a classroom party, hosting friends, having a neighborhood get-together or looking for something fun to do once everyone comes home from trick-or-treating.

That’s why I love printable Halloween games. They’re easy to pull out, simple to play and give everyone—from kids to grandparents—a reason to sit down, laugh and enjoy being together.

I’ve put together some of my favorite Halloween game ideas for different kinds of gatherings, so you can choose what works for your group.

Which Halloween Game Should I Choose?

Still not sure? Don’t overthink it. Pick something that fits your group—or have a few different games ready and see what everyone feels like playing.

Halloween Games for the Whole Family

Halloween games are especially fun when several generations are together. Kids bring the energy. Adults bring the competition. And grandparents have a funny way of quietly knowing answers nobody else does.

Halloween Friendly Feud

If your family loves a little friendly competition, this is an easy place to start. Divide everyone into teams and try to guess the most popular answers.

The best part may be watching everyone react when the answer they were positive would be number one...isn’t.

Halloween 5 Second Game

Five seconds.

Three answers.

How hard could it possibly be?

Apparently, very hard once everyone is staring at you and the clock starts ticking.

Halloween Charades

Charades is one of those games almost everyone already understands, which makes it perfect for a family gathering.

Eventually, someone will give a performance so completely unrelated to what’s written on the card that nobody will ever let them forget it. That’s half the fun!

Halloween Jeoparty

For the family that loves trivia, turn Halloween into game-show night.

Halloween Jeoparty has 30 questions plus a final round, so divide everyone into teams and see who knows their spooky stuff. And prepare for at least one person to become very serious about the score.

Halloween Games for Large Groups

When you have a bigger Halloween gathering, I like games that can pull lots of people into the fun. Nobody wants to spend the whole party waiting for their turn.

Halloween Mingle Bingo

If people don’t all know one another, start here.

Mingle Bingo gives everyone a reason to move around the room, talk to other guests and discover things about each other.

It works especially well at parties, classroom celebrations and larger gatherings where a little help breaking the ice can go a long way.

Halloween Forbidden Words

This one gets funny fast.

Players try to get their teammates to guess the Halloween word on the card without saying any of the five forbidden words underneath it.

It turns out describing something is considerably harder when you’re suddenly forbidden from using every useful word you know.

Halloween Friendly Feud

Friendly Feud works beautifully with a crowd because everyone can contribute as part of a team. Some people will shout answers. Some will debate strategy.

And someone will inevitably announce, “I SAID THAT!” after the answer appears.

Family game night at its finest.

Halloween Jeoparty

For a larger group that loves trivia, split everyone into teams and let them work together.

It gives the competitive people something to sink their teeth into while everyone else gets to cheer, laugh and quietly whisper the answer they definitely knew all along.

Halloween Games for Kids & Teens

Halloween already has a head start with kids. There’s candy involved.

For younger players and mixed ages, What Is Your Halloween Name? is an easy icebreaker, while Halloween Mad Libs brings plenty of silliness without complicated rules.

Halloween Emoji Pictionary is another easy option when you want everyone playing at the same time.

For teens, I love Halloween Selfie Scavenger Hunt and What’s On Your Phone? If they’re going to have their phones with them anyway, you might as well make the phones part of the party.

And if you have energetic kids or teens who want more of a challenge, Think Quick!, Scavenger Hunt, Categories and A–Z Word Race are all included in the 25-game bundle.

Quiet Halloween Activities

Sometimes you need the opposite of a big group game.

Maybe kids need something to do while everyone is arriving. Maybe you want an activity for a classroom table. Maybe the trick-or-treaters have gone home and everyone is ready to sit down.

Or maybe Grandma has absolutely no intention of acting anything out in Charades. Fair enough!

The 25-game bundle includes quieter activities such as Finish the Phrase, Word Game, Word Scramble, Word Search, Emoji Pictionary, Dots & Boxes and Tic-Tac-Toe.

You can put a few on the table with pencils and let people choose what they want to do.

And for guests who enjoy Halloween trivia, Candy Slogan Match, Match the Phobia and Name That Song offer something a little different without needing everyone in the room to play at once.

Quiet does not necessarily mean noncompetitive.

Put a Halloween Word Search in front of the right family and you'll see what I mean!

Last-Minute Printable Halloween Games

Halloween has a way of sneaking up on you. One minute it’s the beginning of October. The next minute someone needs a costume tomorrow, the candy bowl is mysteriously half empty and you suddenly remember you promised to bring a game.

This is exactly when printable games earn their keep.

Choose the games you want, download the PDFs, print the pages you need and you’re ready. No waiting for shipping. No searching three stores the night before the party.

And because the 25-game bundle includes word games, icebreakers, scavenger hunts, group games, conversation games and Halloween challenges, you can print only the activities that make sense for your particular gathering.

Just print, gather and play.

Want Several Halloween Games Ready to Go?

If you’d rather have plenty of choices ready, there are two easy options.

The Halloween Ultimate Game Collection combines six game sets: Halloween Friendly Feud, Jeoparty, 5 Second Game, Forbidden Words, Charades, plus the 25 Printable Halloween Games Bundle. That gives you everything from team competition and trivia to quick-thinking games, acting games, word games and quieter printable activities.

Or choose the 25 Printable Halloween Games Bundle if you want a mix-and-match collection of Halloween activities. It includes 25 games across word and puzzle games, phone games, group games, challenges, icebreakers and conversation games.

You don’t need to play everything.

Print a few games for the family. Put quieter activities on the kids’ table. Save a team game for later in the evening.

That’s the beauty of having choices.

Choose the games that fit your group and your gathering.

The Best Halloween Game Is the One Your Group Will Actually Play

At the end of the night, the costumes will come off. The pumpkins will eventually find their way to the compost pile. And somehow, despite buying enough candy for approximately 400 children, there will be nothing good left in the bowl.

But the things people remember are usually the moments in between.

They’ll remember Dad’s ridiculous Charades performance. The answer Grandma somehow knew. The selfie nobody expected. The Friendly Feud answer everyone argued about.

They’ll remember sitting around the table after trick-or-treating, sorting candy and laughing together.

Because Halloween doesn’t have to be elaborate to be memorable.

Sometimes all you need is good people, a little laughter, a bowl of candy...

and a reason to gather.
